One of Dundee’s most iconic businesses is celebrating in style this summer, with mcIntyres Salons named a finalist in three major categories at the prestigious British Hairdressing Business Awards 2025. The announcement comes as the popular Union Street salon prepares to mark its 25th anniversary, a milestone not just for the business, but for the city’s evolving Waterfront.
mcIntyres has long been recognised as a trailblazer for both style and regeneration in Dundee. The Union Street salon, designed by AIM Architects, played a key role in the early redevelopment of the city’s Waterfront. Its bold, contemporary design was honoured with a Regeneration of Scotland Award and a Commendation from the British Civic Trust, recognising its contribution to transforming the area.
Now, a quarter of a century later, mcIntyres is once again making headlines, this time on the national stage.
Triple Finalist at the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2025
The salon is up for three coveted awards at this year’s event, organised by Hairdressers Journal International:
- Business Director of the Year – Salon founder Kay McIntyre has been shortlisted for her outstanding leadership, vision, and contribution to the hairdressing industry.
- Customer Service Award – Sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, this category celebrates the team’s dedication to delivering exceptional, personalised service that keeps clients coming back.
- Salon Team of the Year – Sponsored by Alan Howard, this award recognises the creativity, collaboration, and passion of the entire mcIntyres team.
“We’re absolutely over the moon to be recognised in three categories,” said Kay McIntyre. “This reflects the hard work, talent, and dedication of our team, and our commitment to offering the very best for our clients here in Dundee. It feels extra special to celebrate these nominations in our 25th year on Union Street.”
The winners will be announced on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Royal Lancaster London.
