Dundee’s music scene is about to hit a major high note with the arrival of LiveHouse, a brand-new live music and events venue set to open in the heart of the city.
Housed in the former Mecca Bingo building on Nethergate, LiveHouse is gearing up to become one of Scotland’s largest live music and events spaces, drawing top UK and international acts while also hosting large-scale conferences and awards events.
A New Era for Dundee’s Music & Events Scene
The ambitious project, led by TDI (Dundee Arena) Limited, marks a major investment in the city centre at a time when Dundee is experiencing a resurgence, with ongoing developments at the nearby Overgate Shopping Centre.
Venue director Angus Robb, a well-respected figure in the industry and former owner of Fat Sams, believes Dundee is long overdue a venue of this size.
“I have been promoting shows in Dundee for over thirty years and see a gap in the market for a venue of this scale,” said Robb. “Dundee has a great musical history, and it’s our intention to add LiveHouse to the long list of great gig venues the city has seen over the years.”
The three-phase renovation of the venue is already underway, with the first phase expected to be completed before the end of the year.
What to Expect from LiveHouse
The venue will offer a flexible space, allowing it to cater to a wide range of events—from international touring bands and corporate gatherings to awards dinners and dance music nights.
“We’re seeing a resurgence in the dance music scene across Scotland, fuelled by the meteoric rise of local DJ Hannah Laing, and the venue will be ideal for these types of events too,” Robb added.
LiveHouse aims to provide an alternative to gig-goers who often have to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh for major shows, making Dundee a top destination for live entertainment.
A New Life for a Dundee Landmark
TDI (Dundee Arena) Limited, the company behind Dundee’s award-winning Malmaison Hotel, has a strong track record of delivering multi-million-pound developments. A spokesperson for the company expressed excitement about revitalising the quirky exterior of the former bingo hall, stating:
“It’s great to start work on another iconic property in Dundee. The building has been a feature on the High Street for generations, and we can’t wait to breathe new life into it.”
With big plans, big investment, and a big future ahead, LiveHouse is set to become a game-changer for Dundee’s entertainment scene.
