The University of Dundee’s Caird Hall was filled with pride and optimism today as the Class of 2025’s business and medicine graduates crossed the stage to receive their degrees. These ceremonies, part of the Summer Graduation 2025 running from June 24 to June 27, celebrated the academic excellence and future potential of students set to make a significant impact in their fields and in Dundee’s vibrant community.
The School of Business, recognized for its practical and industry-focused programs, saw a strong cohort of graduates in management, finance, and entrepreneurship. The school’s commitment to fostering innovation aligns with Dundee’s growing reputation as a hub for spinout businesses, with the university ranked top in the UK for developing such ventures by Octopus Ventures in 2023. Graduates are well-positioned to contribute to the city’s economic growth, particularly in technology and sustainable industries. One graduate, speaking anonymously to university media, highlighted their excitement: “The skills I’ve learned at Dundee have prepared me to drive innovation in a dynamic business landscape.” With 91% of Dundee graduates in work or further study 15 months after graduation, the future looks bright for these new professionals.
The School of Medicine, housed partly at the world-renowned Ninewells Hospital, graduated a talented group of future doctors, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Dundee’s medical school, ranked second in the UK for medicine by the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025, continues to lead in clinical training and life sciences research. Graduates like those honored today are equipped to advance healthcare, with many joining the NHS or pursuing cutting-edge research. The school’s legacy includes innovations like keyhole surgery, and today’s graduates are poised to continue this tradition of excellence. A medical student shared their enthusiasm in a university press release: “Dundee’s patient-centered training has inspired me to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
The ceremonies highlighted Dundee’s role as a nurturing ground for talent, with the university’s main campus in the vibrant West End, voted the best place to live in Scotland in 2024 by The Sunday Times, providing an ideal backdrop for student success. The city’s affordability, with low living costs for UK students, and its status as the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design, make it an attractive destination for graduates starting their careers.
Despite recent financial challenges, the university is supported by a £22 million loan from the Scottish Funding Council and a Strategic Advisory Taskforce led by Sir Alan Langlands, ensuring its continued contribution to Dundee’s economy and global reputation. Education Minister Jenny Gilruth emphasized the institution’s importance, stating, “The Scottish Government is committed to securing Dundee’s future as a leader in higher education.”
Today’s graduates join a global network of over 120,000 alumni across nearly 200 countries, carrying forward Dundee’s legacy of transforming lives through knowledge and innovation. As they step into their careers, these business and medicine graduates embody the university’s motto, “Magnificat Anima Mea Domine” (My soul magnifies the Lord), and Dundee’s spirit of resilience and ambition.
