Dundee faced a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen at the ScotFoam Stadium this afternoon in a match filled with intensity and opportunities. Kevin Nisbet opened the scoring for the Dons in the first half, followed by a stunning long-range strike from Topi Keskinen early in the second half. Seb Palmer-Houlden managed to pull one back for the Dark Blues, but despite their efforts, Aberdeen held on for the victory, leaving Dundee frustrated with missed chances and defensive lapses.

The only change to Dundee’s starting lineup saw Mo Sylla return to central midfield, pushing Lyall Cameron into a more attacking role, while Seun Adewumi started on the bench.

The match began in a chaotic manner, with both teams struggling to maintain possession. Dundee quickly found their rhythm, launching several promising attacks. A combination between Ziyad Larkeche and Simon Murray presented a chance for Murray, but Aberdeen’s goalkeeper Ross Doohan made the save. Doohan was called into action again shortly after, denying Josh Mulligan’s attempt from the edge of the box, while Larkeche saw a powerful shot hit the side netting.

Aberdeen initially struggled to find their footing, but gradually improved, with Topi Keskinen forcing a save from Dundee keeper Jon McCracken. The Dons took the lead in the 29th minute from a corner kick. A deep cross found Krister Tobers at the far post, and though McCracken saved his volley, Kevin Nisbet was quick to react, slamming the loose ball into the net.

The Dark Blues were shaken momentarily but regrouped, applying pressure on the Aberdeen defense. They had a couple of frantic goalmouth scrambles, with close-range shots from Murray, Tiffoney, and Cameron all blocked, before Jordan McGhee shot wide from a corner.

At halftime, Seb Palmer-Houlden replaced Scott Tiffoney, and Dundee started with renewed vigor. However, just seven minutes into the second half, a lapse in midfield allowed Topi Keskinen to unleash a curling shot from 25 yards that found the top corner, putting Aberdeen 2-0 up.

Dundee quickly responded, with Seb Palmer-Houlden scoring in the 54th minute. A clever cross from Mulligan found Palmer-Houlden, who finished neatly to give the Dark Blues a glimmer of hope.

What followed was a frantic end-to-end encounter, with both teams creating chances. Jon McCracken made a crucial save to deny Tobers’ header, while Dundee continued to press for an equalizer. Substitutions brought fresh legs, and the Dark Blues looked dangerous on the counter-attack, but poor decision-making in the final third meant they failed to convert their opportunities.

Despite numerous chances, including chaotic moments in the Aberdeen goalmouth with shots blocked from Robertson, Murray, and Palmer-Houlden, Dundee couldn’t find the equalizer. The match ended with the Dark Blues feeling they deserved at least a point, having created enough chances to change the outcome.

Dundee’s inability to capitalize on their opportunities and defensive vulnerabilities ultimately cost them the match. Against a struggling Aberdeen side, securing the first goal could have shifted the momentum in their favor.
